Imagine you are an elder of the BaKwele people. You live in the village of Mandzala in the Republic of the Congo. You need to decide whether or not to build the road by listening to the concerns of your people. Think about what is best for them today, tomorrow, and into the future.

The land where you live is one of the last habitats of the western lowland gorilla, an endangered species found only in Central Africa. There are about 110,000 of these gentle giants left. That may sound like a lot, but gorillas are threatened in the wild, as more and more of their forest home is destroyed by logging, mining, farming and livestock grazing. Other threats include hunting for meat, exposure to human disease and war.

The gorillas living near your village are threatened right now by a proposal to build a road. The road would pass through prime rainforest and gorilla habitat.
