Congo Peafowl (Congo Peacock)

Afropavo congensis

Size: 2.5-3.5 lbs.

Diet: Fallen fruit, ants and beetles

Habitat: Shady areas of the rainforest--on the ground during the day and in trees at night.

Range: Congo region

Life Span: Up to 20 years

Social organization: Found in pairs, families or single

Threats to survival: Hunting, deforestation, mining

Fun Facts: Only a male peafowl is actually a true "peacock." Females are called "peahens," babies are called "peachicks." Unlike other peacocks, the Congo peacock doesn't have a train of fancy feathers.
